How Credit Reports Effect Consumer Lifestyle

Category: HOME BUSINESS

by Chris Channing

If you ever hope to obtain expensive items such as houses or even a car, you’ll likely have to buy on credit. Sadly these items are hard to live without, so the fact that you’ll have to deal with credit and debt is unavoidable. They key for consumers is to keep updated on how they can improve their credit score, so they aren’t left out in the dust when it comes to the necessities of consumer life.

How A Credit Rating Is Determined

There are a myriad of factors that go into determining one’s credit score. The higher the score, the better a consumer is when attempting to obtain a loan or buy on credit. For this reason, it should be a part of every consumer’s goal to strive for an impressive credit rating.

One of the biggest factors that goes into determining one’s credit score is the responsibility of the consumer in general. If the consumer has a good history of paying bills on time, the score of the consumer will be higher. Otherwise, the score may be impacted quite negatively on a large scale.

The biggest hurdle that the younger generations face is their lack of history. If one has little to no history in using credit, lenders are much less likely to handout a loan. This is often only remedied through time and good behavior, as well as obtaining a history in paying off loans in a timely manner.

Sadly, anything on one’s credit report can be sold and traded at will by credit companies. This lets lenders decide on whether or not they should lend money to a consumer or not. But in other scenarios, the information may be bought by illegitimate corporations to send offers to the long lists of consumers.

Red Flags in Credit Building

Some acts are unavoidable- you may not be able to protect against an identity theft, for example. But for other things, there are ways to avoid bad credit ratings through responsibility and common sense.

First we have the identity theft scenario. If you happen to get your identity stolen, criminals can ruin your credit rating for years to come. In some cases, the damage may not be undone. For this reason it is important to cancel all credit cards that are stolen, and be sure to destroy any confidential information you obtain through the mail.

Other factors such as signing for a loan for a friend or family member may have adverse effects. If the loan defaults and you don’t have enough money, you will get a large reduction in your credit score as a result. Because of this, it is important to only sign for those who you think are trustworthy.

Lastly, obtaining a good credit score only requires common sense. Don’t buy what you can’t afford, stay up to date on bills, and ensure you are properly protected from all risks. Doing so will enable you to buy on credit when you really need it- and keep you free of frustration that comes with a negative credit score.
