Are Affiliate Marketers All Con Artists?

One of the objections I frequently hear when talking with people about the opportunity available in affiliate marketing is that they don’t want to make money ripping people off. They really believe that all they would be doing as affiliate marketers is pushing people into buying subpar products they don’t need and won’t use.
Yes, of course there are dishonest affiliate marketers. Just like there are dishonest teachers, doctors, lawyers, cooks, landscapers and (insert just about any job here). We can never get away from the fact that there are dishonest people in every profession.
The key question you have to ask yourself, though, is whether affiliate marketing itself is dishonest. My answer is no. Yes, there are “business opportunity” scammers trying to get your money at every turn. I’m here to tell you that isn’t what affiliate marketing is all about.
With the economy slowed down, many people are in need of extra money to make ends meet. Affiliate marketing can be a wonderful opportunity to have a part time job, and later a full time job if you want, where you control the time you spend and you are in control of the results if you do it right.
The most important principle you must let sink into your mind is that you are not “selling” anything as an affiliate marketer. Affiliate marketing is really just another method of advertising. It is a particularly good form of advertising for businesses with good products, but no advertising budget. Now businesses of all sorts at all levels are using it.
It is the job of the business and the product to make the sales. The job of the affiliate marketer is to find out who the product could help, or who needs the product already, and then make sure those people find out about it. It is just that simple. If you understand that principle, the rest of the equation will fall in line.
